Meet Patti and Margaret, the pioneers of Big Hill Haven. They exemplify how helping others creates big change. Their stories are not only inspirational, they are living proof that through resilience, determination, a dash of humor, and a lot of love – you can overcome anything.
Mission
Big Hill Haven will provide a safe place for women with or without children leaving domestic violence and empower them to rebuild their lives by providing support services and advocacy. We will lead our community in understanding the issues related to family violence in our community.
Vision
Our community has ended family violence through supporting and empowering families.

The Next Five Years
OUTREACH SUPPORT
We project Big Hill Haven will support as many as 200 women and children per year by 2026.
PROVIDING VITAL SERVICES
Provide ongoing support for women through Legal Aid, Alberta Works and counselling as required.
EMERGENCY SHELTER
Increase our capacity to five emergency beds assisting those in need of urgent housing.
Domestic abuse rates are the highest they’ve been in 10 years & they continue to climb. In 2018 and 2019, 23,247 Alberta women, children and seniors requesting shelter admission were turned away due to lack of available shelter space.

The Calgary Police Service responded to 15,038 domestic incidents from January to September 2020, which is almost 9% above average while Family Violence Info Chat service experienced an 83 % increase in use in 2020 over the same period in 2019.
