The purpose of Big Hill Haven is to provide a safe place for women with or without children, living with or leaving domestic violence. To empower them to rebuild their lives by providing essential support services and advocacy. We will educate our community on understanding the issues related to conquering domestic violence in our community.
MEET OUR BOARD
The Big Hill Haven Women's Shelter relies on a committed and diverse board of directors to help ensure the shelter continues to provide the best possible support, programs and services, while steering growth to meet future needs and empowering families.
Board members are involved in such areas as financial decision-making, strategic planning, policy setting and fund-raising. It’s rewarding work that makes a difference in the lives of women and children.

A resident of Cochrane for 15 years, Faith is an ordained minister associated with All Saints Anglican Church. She previously worked in a ministry to the poor in Edmonton's inner city, specifically with homeless and abused women. She is currently involved as a volunteer in several social justice projects
is a Calgary-based Criminal Defence lawyer, and a dedicated advocate. She received her undergraduate degree in Biological Science and her Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary. Robin currently volunteers for non-profit organizations with a focus on access to justice. Having been raised in Cochrane, she is invested in helping strengthen the community.
Margaret Van Tighem is a lifetime volunteer with extensive experience working with charities in the not for profit sector. She has served on various boards in the mental health, addictions and education field. Margaret is a third generation Albertan who received her B.A. in English from the University of Calgary. She is co-founder and Board Chair of the Cochrane Women's Emergency Shelter Society which operates under the name of Big Hill Haven.
PAST CHAIR / CO-FOUNDER
is a local business owner here in Cochrane and strong advocate of growing businesses built on corporate responsibility & ethics. With a background in business development & the opportunity to have volunteered at the Children's Hospital, she understands the value and necessity for people to get involved in support programs. It is her passion to help grow a strong, nurturing community that can provide families a safe and loving environment in which to grow and flourish.
has been working in the domestic abuse sector for over 14 years. In 2009 Allison accepted a position at the YWCA Banff as an outreach prevention worker. From there she went on to Discovery House in Calgary and was the manager of that program for 4 years. Allison is currently the manager of the Sheriff King emergence shelter and outreach programs at the YW Calgary. Allison is a strong advocate for women and children leaving abuse and violence.
Debbie is a local Realtor who has lived in Cochrane for over 20 years. She is actively involved in community programs and is proud supporter of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. Debbie feels no woman or child should ever be 'stuck' in a abusive relationship due to the lack of resources.
